This watercolor painting depicts a Judolia montivagans, aka Mountain Flower Longhorn Beetle, that I saw while hiking in the Grand Mesa National Forest. Spotted perched upon a purple aster, this light yellow beetle sporting a dark checkered pattern certainly does love mountain flowers.
