Inspired by summer hikes through the American West, this watercolor painting depicts four species of beetles that I observed perched on wildflowers. What makes this painting special is the "dancing" leg positions of the beetles—a quirky, joyful characteristic I observed while watching them scurry across petals in the wild. To emphasize the beetles, I depicted them all together in a row on a clean white background.

The Inspiration: I spotted the Red-blue Checkered Beetle, Yellow Velvet Beetle, and Green Blister Beetle during a trip to Grand Teton National Park. The light yellow with dark checks Mountain Flower Longhorn Beetle was spotted in the Grand Mesa National Forest. All four of these beetles share a passion for feeding on wildflowers.
