This watercolor painting depicts a fuzzy, chartreuse Yellow Velvet Beetle that I spotted while hiking in Grand Teton National Park. The adults of this species, Lepturobosca chrysocoma, love to feed on flowers like Sticky Geranium. They can be destructive to flowers, though they do aid in pollination by picking up pollen on their hairy coats and transferring it from flower to flower.
